Wrapping Up My Outreachy Internship: What's Next

Three months, one project, and countless lessons — here's what I learned as an Outreachy intern with Fedora and where I'm headed next.

I’m in my final week of the Outreachy internship with The Fedora Project, and it feels surreal. Three months of learning, shipping, and community have gone by fast.

This internship wasn’t just about contributing to the Fedora Release Schedule Planner; it was about growing as a developer, building confidence, and realizing how much open source thrives on people, not just code.

Post-Outreachy Goals

As I wrap this up, I’ve been thinking a lot about what to do next. There’s apparently a lot:

  • I want to work on projects that solve actual real-world problems, so impactful projects are my target from now on.
  • I have seen the value of mentorship over these past few months and now I want to mentor others. A helping hand goes a long way.
  • To solve these impactful problems I need to dive deeper into backend development, AI, and cloud computing. It’s a lot but these topics build on each other from my experience.

Tech Stack

I’ve been working with:

  • Languages: Python, JavaScript, Go (learning), Bash
  • Frameworks: FastAPI, Django, Flask, Vue, Nuxt
  • Tools: Docker, Git, Linux, AWS

But honestly, the biggest skill I’m taking with me is adaptability. New stack? New tool? I’ll learn it and ship.

Beyond the Code

Something this internship taught me is that success isn’t just about commits. It’s about connecting with people, asking questions, and being part of a community. That’s what keeps open source alive.

Things I Could Have Done Better

Looking back, there are a few things I know I could have done better:

  • Engaged more with the community. Outreachy is as much about people as it is about projects.
  • Blogged more consistently. Sharing along the way helps others learn and creates connections.
  • Balanced code with community. I leaned heavily on the technical side, but the social side matters just as much.

What’s Next

Thanks to my Outreachy internship with Fedora, I have come to realize that I really love backend development. Now, I want to build on that by adding AI and cloud computing into the mix.

In short:

  • I’m looking for remote opportunities.
  • I want to keep contributing to open source.
  • And I’m excited to grow in backend, AI, and cloud computing.

Whatever comes next, I’m ready for it.

Here’s to building, mentoring, and making an impact.

A huge thank you to Outreachy and The Fedora Project for this opportunity.
